The Cline Apothecary team has supported artists throughout the world. Each season you will find featured artists at our gallery and online. Our hope is that you enjoy the beautiful works of art as much as we do.
Heida is passionate about nature and the materials, animals and the people that are born into this world; this is why she loves clay. Her process starts with the smell of wet clay and getting the dirt on her fingers as she works with slabs, coils, and pinching. Seeing the slab take on a human form with pressing and pulling, adding and subtracting is exciting, as she expresses the story behind every sculpture that has somehow appeared in my mind. She draws on ideas from daily life in Iceland and her native country's belief in the word “in between” what you can see and what you can not. Her surfaces are made with stains, underglazes, glazes, paint, wire, wool and paper. Mixed media is also a big part in her sculptures to help to draw the viewer deeper into the stories. To accomplish that she use welding, crocheting, knitting or weaving, copper wire, felted wool, handmade paper, fabric and miscellaneous found objects.
Exotic Sculptures in Clay
The first time Terrie shaped clay into a usable shape was at Girl Scout Camp in 1967. She fell in love with wheel-throwing after taking pottery classes with Dr. James Darrow at the University of Tennessee in 1978. She dabbled in clay over the years then turned my passion into a business in 2001. Each piece of my pottery is hand-made by me in my home studio in Tennessee.

The Artist and Creative Coach
Handmade, one of a kind, ceramic oddities. Pam has always had a fascination with imagery of the human face. She is drawn to masks and flowerpots and plaques with faces superimposed on them. In the checkout line at the store Pam find herself studying interesting features in the clerk's face...She take screenshots of newscasters with unique eyebrows...She don't understand any of this but as a student potter, She stumbled on an outlet for her strange fascination. She made a coffee cup with a tiki-style face on it. She was smitten with the form. Cups gave way to vases, then bottles and jugs and grots and...well you get it. She like faces...She hope you will enjoy her craft too.

Rita, the creator of Rita B Pottery. After retiring from a 35-year career she wanted to try something new that inspired her. She has always been drawn to pottery throughout her life. It was always the first thing she looked for in craft markets any time on vacation in different parts of the country. She always wondered who made those pieces, what inspired them and what kind of people are they. This led her to take some classes at our local community center to get the basics and immediately fell in love. She turned her free-standing garage and sun porch into my studio filled with all the equipment needed to create. As she would say, “this is the moment I discovered ME.” She found the hours filled with the sounds of nature and creating something with her hands was where she was destined to be. She creates a lot of pottery from the plants in her garden from elephant ears, ferns and lavender and on and on. We are so fortunate to have her show our studio located in Sewanee, Tennessee.
